what is nose work/
scent work?
Best of all, nose work is FUN because it taps into your dog’s natural hunting and scenting abilities. Dogs are born knowing how to use their noses; it is not something that we need to teach. We can, however, build their desire and motivation to hunt by positively rewarding these natural abilities with things that your dog loves.
This methodology builds broad and solid foundational scent detection skills that enables them to successfully face new and greater challenges in nose/scent work. It develops confidence, problem solving skills, empowerment and independence. At the same time, it provides mental and physical stimulation as well as therapeutic health and relationship bonding between dogs and humans which is why it is also so fantastic for reactive and anxious dogs.

NOSEWORK - “Fun Party Chicken in a Box Game”
This game is the foundation for building confidence, search skill and a strong connection to hunt. The Nosework box game as it is called (aka “Chicken in a Box”) comes to us from the founders of K9 Nose Work® who have designed a specific training methodology for teaching scent work to dogs that focusses on putting the dog in control of the game. Best of all it teaches handler observation skills as it builds a beautiful bond with dog and handler teams.
We start with your dog’s most absolutely crazy food (or toy) and a range of different sized boxes and progress, at the dog’s pace, to more complex puzzles and environmental objects.
5 week course: a combination of online and/or face-to-face sessions - $190
Class size: 6 sniffers all working individually
Nose work & Enrichment Games
exercise & mental stimulation
Nose Work, Find It and Enrichment games are a great mental workout for puppies and adult dogs alike. for dogs who have lots of excess energy, these fun games will give them a job to do, help reduce arousal, provide a mutually exclusive game instead of puppy biting. Studies have shown that these types of games release feel good endorphins that promote calming and relaxation.
Over the course we introduce enrichment obstacles appropriate to puppy’s age that can be set up in small spaces inside and outside the home with lots of options for DIY enrichment toys. Other enrichment may include snuffle mats, lickety mats, food puzzles etc.

nose work to help behaviour issues
Nose Work Therapy sessions are suitable for shy, anxious, fearful, reactive dogs. We focus on the “Fun Party Chicken in a Box” game of K9 Nose Work® methodology because activities that have been limited or stressful previously are now an absolute joy as we help dogs tap into their natural hunting instinct by giving them choices over their environment as they solve a range of scent puzzles.
All dogs work one at a time and will not see another dog in the search area. They will need to be safety secured and/or crated or in a vehicle which ensures safety for reactive dogs. Therapeutic benefits of nose work (scent work).
Private session: $180 per hour plus travel fee. Ongoing packages negotiated.
